Meet Shelly
Thanks for visiting my Website! I have represented part of Newport News in the Virginia House of Delegates since January, 2020 and I hope you will give me the honor of continuing to represent you in Richmond. As your Delegate, my goal is to make Newport News and Virginia the best place to work and raise a family, connect to educational opportunities and enjoy a healthy lifestyle in a green, livable community.
About Virginia’s 70th District
The new 70th District, located in the city of Newport News in the Hampton Roads region, includes suburban neighborhoods, parks and vibrant commercial areas. The boundaries are similar to the previous 94th District, excluding Fort Eustis Military Base and Lee Hall. It also includes Glendale and neighborhoods near Christopher Newport University. The district has several parks and recreational areas, including Newport News Park and Riverview Farm Park.
Priorities
Empowering Education, Green Growth, Accessible Care, and Fair Elections
Education
As a member of the House Education Committee, Shelly advocates for improving public education by supporting STEM education, funding for school construction, fair pay for educators and improving the teaching profession overall.
Health and Lowering Drug Costs
Shelly works to improve healthcare access and affordability, including expanding telehealth and eliminating out-of-pocket costs for necessary breast cancer imaging. She opposes prescription drug price gouging.
Environment and Clean Energy
Shelly is committed to combating climate change and promoting renewable energy, collaborating with conservation groups and advocates for environmental justice legislation.
Democracy
Shelly prioritizes fair elections as a member of the Privileges and Elections Committee in the House and consistently votes for legislation that makes voting more accessible and opposes bills that would roll back voting rights in Virginia.
